Hello, my lovelies.
Yesterday, I came across a blog post by EM Lynley called Let’s Make a Pact: Making the Time to Write which was like a kick in the gut in the best kind of way. I’ve been working on expanding and polishing up a short story for submission and haven’t gotten any words in on my novel-in-progress lately. Like, over a month. It’s been a rough, rough month. She is going to tackle NaNoWriMo in a few days and then challenge herself to write at least 500 words a day every day after that until the new year. And she invites anyone who wants to join her.
I started thinking about this. This gives me three things that I think I need as a writer: 1) A realistic goal for word count; 2) A consistent goal for word count; and 3) Accountability with the other people who have made the same pledge, which is not something I have in real life.
I’m not doing NaNoWriMo this year. At this point in my life, there just is no way I could consistently manage those numbers daily. Especially on weekends. I find it so hard to get anything done when everyone is home on the weekends. So I’m starting with 500 words a day (minimum) now through the end of the year. I should be able to make consistent progress on my novels-in-progress this way once I finish up and submit my short story.
I’m planning to post once a week through the end of the year on my progress to let those of you interested know how I’m doing. I’m starting with today… and I’ve already met the goal, yay!
Feel free to nag and pester and question and such in regards to my writing progress. I do need that motivation to keep doing this.
Until next time, my lovelies.
